Support Meetings
Volunteers, or "Mentors", assist active job seekers and the under-employed in realizing their career goals. You do not have to be an executive or even a manager to benefit or to help others. Whether you work in accounting, sales or IT, there are a number of ways to make a real difference while making valuable business contacts and learning essential new skills. Guidance, Training and Support Meetings are conducted by many Chapters of CEN, check the CEN Event Calendar for a support meeting near you.
Be a Prisoner of Hope
No one wants to be enslaved whether it's from a job or a job search. In fact Christ died to set us free. But if there is one thing in this world that I will let imprison me, it's Hope. Zechariah 9:12 states, "Return to your fortress, O Prisoners of Hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you". God makes this promise to you also in your job search. It's easy to be troubled, experience anxiety, carry burdens and think negative thoughts that will keep you away from God's promise. Staying positive, trusting that God has you on the right path, being a Prisoner of Hope and doing your part in your job search is the recipe for success.

Meetings at the St. Gerard Majella Parish are temporarily suspended. Please check the CEN Event Calendar for support meetings at other parishes. St. Gerarde Majella has no CEN parish representative at this time. The parish's support for the unemployed started in 1996 with the founding of the St. Joseph Society. In 2002 we joined the collective efforts of CEN and in 2008 adopted the identity of "The SGM Chapter of CEN." We started holding meetings twice each month in August 2006 offering spiritual support and job search skills. As with all CEN services, meetings are open to all members of the community, parishioners or not, Catholic or not. And there is never any cost. We focus on what can and should be done and not dwell in the past. We help you to see the silver lining of what many see only as a storm cloud. There is no mileage in negativity. We are realists and understand that you are dealing with a difficult situation but we try to help you find ways to deal with it in a positive way. When you come to one of our meetings, you won't go away depressed from being around negativity but will go away with a better attitude and some positive, useful ideas to put into practice for a quicker and more successful search.
